It’s not (quite) all about Lovebox this weekend, as the Nest in Dalston rocks along with two awesome parties. First off there’s Friday’s session with live house act The Juan Maclean from the DFA camp, who plays alongside labelmates Shit Robot, Factory Floor (playing a ‘live dance workshop set’) and Durrr’s Rory Phillips DJing too.
BnB particularly loves Happy House by The Juan Maclean. Here's why:
John Maclean (aka the lead member of The Juan Maclean) is actually an old friend of DFA don James Murphy’s, from the days when the former was a guitarist in a punk band and the latter made his (meagre) living a as a sound engineer to their ilk. After leaving music for a few years – during which time his friend James first found success as part of LCD Soundsystem – John Maclean returned to making music and joined DFA, hooking up with LCD’s Nancy Whang and Nick Millhiser (their original drummer Jerry Fuchs having died in in an elevator shaft accident back in 2009) to form a live band that never fails to get people going mental, with an electronic style that’s perfect for the intimate environs of The Nest.
Then on Saturday The Nest’s regular Saturday disco-to-electro session Lemonade presents Disco Bloodbath, who share the spotlight with Kiwi (aka local DJ Alex Warren) while young up-and-comers Box Of Ghosts and This Is My TV play live. Lemonade always mixes live acts with smart London DJs and Disco Bloodbath is one of our fave acts, esp with DBB member Damon Martin’s ace new tune That Ain’t Right to consider (it’s out now on 12”, digital next month):
