Yesterday, FACT posted a very interesting article claiming that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was working on a ‘super-high digital audio format’ that were to match vinyl’s sound quality. A huge vinyl fan himself, Jobs’ aim was to create a new format that had 20 times the fidelity of an MP3-file. According to the article, Jobs was “apparently shocked that consumers were so willing to “trade quality… for convenience or price.”
Whether this new format is still in development remains unclear but if it would eventually be released, it would probably only cater to the diehard music fans: The size of the files would be so huge that it would be most convenient to download them while you sleep…
Still, interesting stuff we say.
