Ministry of Sound Threatens Local Council With Law SuitWritten by the B&B Crew News - The London nightclub and worldwide clubbing institution Ministry Of Sound have put its lawyers to work to hold the local council liable for a possible closure in the future. Reason for their concerns; two planning permissions for tower blocks next door.
Yesterday a letter was sent by Ministry of Sound’s lawyers in which they threatened to hold the Southwark council liable “for any and all financial loss it suffers both to the nightclub and any resulting loss to its global brand and associated businesses”. To emphasize the fact it could be about big bucks here, they added it “would amount to many tens of millions of pounds”. Reason for this warning is a meeting today and next month about the possible permission for two tower blocks near the nightclub. Until now, no private housing has been close to the club but according to Lohan Presencer, Ministry of Sound's chief executive, it’s only a matter of time until the first complaints will role in once the apartments are built. The letter send to council boss Annie Shepperd states it’s highly likely that the noise of music and people queuing and leaving the club would result in “nuisance” claims which would be hard for Ministry of Sound to disprove, in the end leading to a loss of its license. The council, in their turn, are hoping for a balance between the club’s interests and the regeneration program of the area. Well, we have to wait and see what happens, but let’s hope it will not turn out in to a “we told you so” statement by Ministry of Sound a few years from now…
