Mini Interview: Tiga

BnB chats with Tiga about his new sub-label, Twin Turbo – with his new track as The Dove, with collaborator Jesper Dahlbäck (Girl at a party with Siren) – and his charity efforts to help with the famine in East Africa.

So Tiga, why the decision to start Twin Turbo now?
So we can release more music, and also release some really moronic club-banger style tracks without fear of contaminating the rest of our catalogue. Also, realizing that not ALL music is created equal and not ALL music needs to be pressed onto vinyl. While we are perfectly comfortable with ‘eclecticism’, we realize that some categorization will help the music reach the right people.

How did the hook up with East African Famine relief come about? (Twin Turbo’s proceeds will go towards charity efforts until September, 12th.)
Proceeds on the first wave of subscriptions until mid-Sept are going to charity, and those contributions will be doubled by me personally. We had an extremely successful campaign raising funds for Tsunami-relief last March, and it seemed to work very well as a way to raise money. I think people are on the edge about paying for music; it’s almost like they WANT a reason to pay, and that was my solution: a solution that actually helps all parties concerned. The East African relief in particular is something that i care about. As to why, well, that’s self-explanatory.

What about the Canadian government’s role, did you approach them first or is this some kind of on-going initiative you’re taking part in?
This is something the government does for many causes and emergency relief efforts. It is an incentive for any organization to take part in. Nothing particular to us.

How did you and Jesper (Dahlbäck) come up with The Dove idea? Why that name your as new alias?
The Dove has been my nickname since i was about 10, when I bestowed it on myself. Nothing to do with peace. That track was just.... well, no story really: two idiots left alone in a room with machines.

How do you find the samples for your tracks? How did you find these two in particular?
Professional secret.

What else are you working on at the moment?
Our long-awaited (myself and Zombie Nation) ZZT album is completed and coming out in November, my touring is in full swing, the label’s on fire too. And I start my regular BBC 6 Music show in October, and start work on my next album in September. To list more would be like showing off…

And finally, as the new label is about dancefloor killers, can we get a top 5 of your current favourite tracks?
