The Global Legalization Of Drugs

Mick Jagger recently called for legalization of drugs on UK's Isle Of Man... Meanwhile in The Netherlands, a bunch of former politicians proposed an investigation to analyze the possibilities of legalizing drugs in general. Has the world gone bananas?

During his visit on the Larry King Live show on CNN, the Rolling Stones frontman claimed that "The whole question of legalizing drugs is fraught". You usually try these things out in very small places. You know, like you try a new product out in a small kind of society or an island somewhere. In England they always try out new mobile phones in the Isle of Man. They've got a captive society. So I said, you should try – you should try the legalisation of all drugs on the Isle of Man and see what happens."

According to Jagger's ideas it's simply human nature to want to take drugs in some form. "Human beings seem to have a propensity to want to take drugs in some form. It seems to be the propensity of human beings to want to use them. I think you have to take that as read, you know." Although this doesn't necessarily applies to everyone, there's a lot to say for this as well. Haven't we all indulged in binge drinking at least once?

"But then what do you do when it affects so many people's lives, and not in a good way? And then also you get a lot of violence at both ends of the scope," Jagger said. "That's the part that speaks to some sort of legalization. Because that, you would hope, would help the violence from both ends of the supply line." Actually a quiet similar thought as the earlier mentioned Dutch politicians brought to the fore.

Sure, there are things to say in favour for this approach and testing it on a small isle would be a 'good' idea, it still doesn't sound very realistic. No matter what, it's something that should be approved by the European union and implemented in multiple countries to avoid mass transit of flocks of stoned-off-their-tits people to the Isle of Man (or the Netherlands). What do you guys think? Legalization? A good thing or a bad thing?
