Maxim From The Prodigy’s New Art ProjectWritten by Manu Ekanayake Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:22 News -The Prodigy have always been a multi-talented bunch – and their scary-eyed MC, Maxim, is no exception. He’s just opened his first art exhibit and we were lucky enough to blag into the launch party… So BnB found themselves at the I.N.C Space in Covent Garden, London, last week on a rare foray into the West End. And while that tourist-afflicted hell-hole is usually a pretty awful experience, we were happy we made the trip out, because it’s not often you get to see a member of one of the best live acts in clubland launch his first art project… especially when it’s pretty good. As you might expect if you’re even vaguely familiar with The Prodigy’s output, Maxim (real name: Keith Palmer, but he makes art as ‘MM’) makes art that epitomises ‘the dark fantasy landscapes of fairy tales and ghostly wars,’ in the words of serious art critic Francesca Gavin. Called Lepidop Terror (a pun on the scientific term Lepidoptera), the free exhibition runs until the 26th of September and it features intricate images on very dark backgrounds, which are deceptively detailed and feature a butterfly motif that is far from innocent... The prints themselves are displayed in a small, specially darkened ‘room within a room’ which was guarded by a doorman, lending a slightly clubby feel to proceedings. But we’re glad we persevered, especially when we found out that one of the paintings (Godiva) will be sold for the benefit of Breakthrough Breast Cancer – good work, Maxim! Nice to see the other bandmembers out in support too… even Leroy, bless him.
