Loud Music: Now Less Risky!

We all know that long exposure to loud music is bad for our hearing… Or is it? A recent study at the University of Minnesota states the whole issue is being blown (?) out of proportions...

The new research was published in the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing and states that listening to loud music, although still bad, isn’t as dangerous as thought before. Incorrect hearing tests have propagated a myth that loud music causes hearing loss. About 10% of the children have been handed an incorrect prognosis for hearing issues, with false positives being discovered in many cases.

The University of Minnesota have performed tests on the University Marching band, where they followed them for a year and discovered that after a year almost 50% of the problems of those with apparent noise-inducted hearing loss, disappeared after a year.

Having said all that, it’s still wise to use common sense when you are exposing yourself to loud music on a regular basis since "the damage may build up over time and not appear until a person is older."  Well, we were already familiar with that last sentence, so we're not going to throw our earplugs out of the window yet.
