Kissy Sell Out & Stephen Fry Debate Over Classical MusicWritten by Manu Ekanayake Thursday, 12 May 2011 11:49 News -In possiby the best mash-up in the world, Kissy Sell Out and UK broadcaster Stephen Fry will debate whether classical music is relevant to young people at Cambridge University – and you can watch it LIVE as it’s being streamed online! On Thursday 12th May, clubland comes to Cambridge University… and we don’t mean for the end-of-term party. Nope, one of our own is debating at the world-famous Cambridge Union. Kissy Sell Out (Radio 1’s man with the mash-up, ace remixer and with his second album, Wild Romance, just out) will debate for the motion that ‘This House Believes Classical Music Is Irrelevant To Today’s Youth’. Kissy is joined on the ‘for’ side of the debate by Julliard School (NYC) classical music teacher and world-renowned expert on the subject Greg Sandow, which may be a bit of a shock to some of his students… Meanwhile, debating against Kissy (or ‘against the motion’ as they say at Cambridge) is much-loved UK intellectual, actor, comedian and Twitter fan Stephen Fry - who has also written lyrics for musicals like West Side Story and composed music for films like Sweeney Todd. And he’s got Daily Telegraph classical music critic Ivan Hewett to help him out too. But in case this all sounds a bit serious, Kissy will also use 4 CDJs to remix some classical songs in his own style, while also playing remixes of Stephen’s favourite classics as well. And he’ll even teach Mr Fry to mix, live in front of the 400+ audience (and everyone watching the live stream /Facebook /Twitter feed). Yeah, you could say that we're excited...
