James Zabiela Takes Over Time Out Live's Nite Sessions

Time Out Live returns to East Village for another Nite Sessions event on December 5th. This time they’re housing it up with curator James Zabiela, new school talents Midland and Om Unit and house ace Tom Budden plus Will Saul.

So far Time Out Live's Nite Sessions have taken a slightly different form each time, or as Time Out’s Clubbing Editor Kate Hutchinson puts it, ‘We’ve thrown a block party with DJ Yoda, a rave with Riva Starr and a bass-fest with Sub Focus. But this time we’re locking horns with some house and techno heavyweights for a change.’

The reason for this varied approach is to reflect London’s varied club culture, which is why they’ve booked James Zabiela as their headliner. Both a DJ’s DJ and a clubber’s favourite, such is the extent of his technical skill, James has run the gauntlet of playing house, techno, breaks & pretty much everything a 4/4 fan could love. Nowadays he’s rinsing out the bassier end of underground dance music (like Untold and Ramadanman) that reflects the ever-changing state of the house nation.

And James has chosen some members of the new school to join him on the night. Midland is a favourite of FACT magazine and Phonica Records (in fact he’s just released his debut EP on their label) who plays multi-layered music we’re not even going to try and slot into a genre, while Om Unit makes ‘electronic music with soul’ (his words), whose recent tune Seaching has proved that post-dubstep tunes can still have a bit of feeling.

But while those guys are busy showing you clubland’s future, Tom Budden and Will Saul will be on hand to show that proper house never goes out of fashion. Tom’s an old Southampton spar of Mr Zabiela’s, while Will’s label, Aus, has just released a track by Midland… and they both know how to get you jacking on the dancefloor. Brilliant.
