James Blake Album News

The man behind ace UK bass tracks Limit To Your Love and The Wilhelm Scream drops his eponymous debut album on Monday 7th February on Atlas and A&M.

James Blake recently came second in the BBC’s Sound Of 2011 competition… but to be honest, we think he’ll get over it. Because when people have long forgotten the awful chav pop of Jessie J (whose music will make you feel violated, and not in a good way) they’ll still be talking about emotive sounds of James Blake, who manages to combine a sublimely soulful voice – that has all the delicacy of the best of Jamie Lidell – with some seriously heavy dubstep beats.

And just like Jamie Lidell, James Blake’s music combines his own vocal talents, but while Jamie’s recent music is all about his love of classic soul, James’ sound is more of a combination of dark bass beats that betray his formative experiences at grime/dubstep club Plastic People (probably the Shoom of the UK bass scene) with lyrics so mournful they’d usually belong on the kind of emo effort that no one at BnB would be caught dead listening to. A truly original performer with one of the albums of 2011.
