Ibiza Icons: Eddie Halliwell

imageSunday Special -

Eddie Halliwell recently dropped the smashing Cream Ibiza 2010 two-disc compilation, so we figured the time was right to catch up with the man himself for a brief chat on recent developments...

Apart from being a regular face at festivals such as Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher, Eddie's probably best known for being one of Ibiza's most notorious hellraisers. 2010 sees the man returning to his anchored residency Cream, the club for which he annually mixes a CD containing that year's hottest club tracks. This year's edition comes in the form of not one but two CDs, both containing a slew of Eddie's signature ED-IT edits, taking the mix to new exciting dimensions.

But there's much more to talk about, such as his Iphone app and his collab with the Onitsuka sneaker brand. Read all about it below...

Eddie, how’s life?
Life couldn’t be better thank you for asking!

You have compiled and mixed Cream’s Ibiza 2010 CD, which features two mixed CDs as opposed to last year when you mixed only one. How did you experience mixing two disc and can you describe the differences between each of them?
One is a main room mix, the other a terrace mix – both full of energy and drive, with most tracks getting my ED-IT treatment!

What criteria did you keep in mind when selecting tracks for the mixes?
You are always very limited with tracks when putting together a compilation such as this – you can’t always get what you want on them but from the tracks available I’ve tried to give people a taste of Cream in Ibiza… Click here for a preview!

What gear did you use for mixing? Are you still a turntable fanatic or are you more of a software-kinda guy these days?
I use different technology for different gigs – but I’m heavily in to new technology, anything that can really enhance your performance.

You’re an Ibiza regular for quite a few years now. Did you notice any substantial changes in the isle’s  clubbing culture over the past few years?
It has changed quite a bit over the years, but it still definitely remains the clubbing capital of the world. The main difference is the lack of day -time parties – Ibiza used to be a 24/7 party island.

We recently caught wind about an Eddie Halliwell iPhone app… what exactly does it do and why should we all download it immediately?
It’s completely free and basically gives all the info you will ever need about me and my tours. There exclusive footage on there, you can stream my podcasts and Fire It Up Radio show and receive news straight to your pocket! Click here for a tutorial!

You’re also one of the few DJs who has his own shoe line… how did the conception of your Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 trainer came to life?
Onitsuka approached me purely due to my love of the trainers - I’ve been a big fan of Onitsuka Tiger trainers for years – so they made me very own customised trainers in my trademark Fire It Up colours.

We would like to thank Eddie for his time and don't forget to vote for him in the DJ MAG TOP 100 POLL.
