Grab Something For The Weekend With Ben Westbeech

Ben Westbeech has to be one of dance music’s best new singers, so we had to feature his new single, Something For The Weekend. Finally, proof that R&B isn’t just for twats…

Former Brownswood and new Strictly Rhythm signing Ben Westbeech combines old school R&B singing skills with a distinctly new school ability to be everything from a DJ to his own producer too. He’s even got a house music alias, Breach. And this is the first single from his (long) awaited second album – it’s got classic pop hooks on top of a sweetly shimmering bass-line… and that’s just the radio edit, never mind the more ravey Breach remix, the bouncing UK funk rendering by Roska or the uk classic house hit from Joey Negro (very 90s DJ bar, in a good way).

And then there’s more new school business from The Revenge with a jacking house dub. Then there’s two new school dons Lee Foss and Robert James giving it a spacey deep house flex with plenty of slick keyboard action. Then finally Gerry Read gives it a twisted jazz take, which is nothing if not atmospheric. It’s nothing much like the song either, mind. BnB loves the Foss and James mix, it’s probably the one that will work on most dancefloors… but you can choose the one you prefer on the single, which is out on Monday 5th September on Strictly Rhythm.
