Global Music Sales Figures Fail To ImpressWritten by the B&B Crew Thursday, 29 April 2010 09:00 NewsAfter a short moment of joy while reading about the music sales figures in the UK, we just found out that global music sales dropped last year by 7.2%, with the US and Japan leading the way.
The IFPI's Recording Industry In Numbers 2010 report that global figures indicate a 7.2% drop in overall sales, to $17 billion. Physical sales shown a 12.7% decrease while the digital revenues continue to rise with 9.2%. Sadly this rise is by far not enough to fill the gap left by the decline in physical sales. The digital files are now good for 25% of the total revenues. Leading the way in these drop are the US and Japan. In the USA the music sales plummeted with 10.7% and in Japan things were a bit worse with a 10.8% decline. If you leave these two countries out, the global development would be a small decline of 3.2%. There is some good news for a few countries though. As reported earlier the UK figures showed an increase, and Australia, South Korea, India and Sweden join them in their celebrations.
