Fabric And Slowpoke Ease Your January BluesWritten by Manu Ekanayake Wednesday, 05 January 2011 17:40 News -Now that 2010 is over, it’s time for the NYE amateurs to go into hibernation for the month while the real clubbers party their way into the New Year. And 2011’s first few weekends are looking pretty good, with Redshape at fabric and Slowpoke’s return... In a scene that’s increasingly full of media-savvy DJs who are all over Facebook/Twitter/Soundclound like it’s going out of fashion, it’s refreshing to meet someone who’s happy to let the music speak for itself. And it’s no surprise that Redshape is happy to lurk behind his big red mask when his distinctive brand of emotive techno (played LIVE tonight) is positively guaranteed to have fabric’s bodysonic dancefloor quaking on Saturday 8th January. Redshape is just one part of a Room 1 line-up that includes the masterful Craig Richards and the mercurial Ivan Smagghe, so expect the floor to be filled with dancing feet for this January session that’s free to Fabricfirst members (their plus one pays just £6!) And while Room 2 of the Farringdon superclub is closed, Room 3 rocks hard with fabric’s own Terry Francis and the boys from Bigger Deer Recordings. So that’s Lewis Ryder, Alex Tepper, Huw Lloyd and Stefano Nicolaou all taking you on a trip that’s well worth taking – check out this mix by Lewis Ryder and we’re sure you’ll agree. But if you feel like taking more time off, you can still enjoy the return of low-profile underground party Slowpoke on Saturday 22nd January, at 135 Stoke Newington Road N16 8BT. This time the promoters who bought you T Bar ( Jaime Ritchie), Kitchen Party (Brian Monaco) and Ditched Disco / Machine (Gower Ramsey) have two treats for you, in the shape of the Tricksi boys from Berlin’s Sonar Kollectiv label and Death on the Balcony from Airdrop Records. So the next chapter of Slowpoke sounds like another warm dose of house, techno, disco and that all-important slice of funk, all for a fiver with RSVP… who says January is about taking it easy?
