Digital Album Sales Figures Slipping Down?Written by the B&B Crew Tuesday, 02 November 2010 18:00 News - Although the decline isn’t very spectacular, after 7 years of double figure growth it’s a bit of a surprise to suddenly see the sales decline three quarters in a row. The first quarter of this year resulted in a decline of 5%, the second a decline of 7% and this quarter showed a decline of 3%. The decrease is even more remarkable because it follows a record breaking 28% increase in album sales in Q4 of 2009. The digital sale of single tracks have been declining for a longer period now so the decline in album sales does’nt come as a full surprise. It neither means we need to write off the digital album format, it just shows the download market has become mature which means it will be harder to accomplish growth. Q4 of this year and Q1 of next year are expected to boost sales, since Q4 always does and the first months of January next year is fuelled by gift cards and new MP3 players. Labels and publishers need to speed up their new ventures such as Spotify and things like that if they want to keep sales up, which if you ask us, is a good thing!
