Daft Punk To Drop Previously Unreleased Material

Everyone’s favorite robotic duo, Daft Punk, will soon return with a previously unheard track titled Drive Unreleased 1994. The tune will be featured exclusively on the 20 Years Of Soma box set, which will be out mid-September.

The story behind the re-discovery of this track on the compilation is a rather intriguing one. It is said that the original DAT tape (titled Daft Drive) was recently discovered by the Soma crew while going through almost two decades of dusty tapes, pictures and artefacts. The 1994 proved to be one of the earliest Daft Punk recordings ever, as evidenced by the remnants of their parent’s record collection that the recording had been made over. Originally, the track was to be released as Soma25 along with their now classic Rollin’ And Scratchin’ track, but Da Funk was chosen instead while Drive apparently vanished into limbo.

Re-titled Drive Unreleased 1994, the track appears as the first track on the first disc of the soon to be released 20 Years Of Soma box set, which furthermore includes classic tracks from Silicone Soul, The Black Dog, Slam and Funk D’Void amongst many others. The second disc is a Slam mix of back-catalogue remixes, while disc 3 sees Silicone Soul mixing up some of their fave’s from back in the day.

20 Years Of Soma will be released on September 19th on Soma Records. You can pre-order the album here.
