Matter’s only been open two years, but we’re hearing that the London club is in trouble. Here’s what we know…
First Ravetalk.co.uk’s cited DJ Yousef (a matter resident) saying on his Circus forum, ‘You may as well hear it from me. Due to many reasons, the main one being the lack of transport to the venue, Matter has shut for the summer. Sad times. They are an amazing bunch down there.’
Soon various messageboards were alive with rumours, using this quote (which was rapidly taken down) as their basis. But there were no news stories until the following day – just rumours, which are always flying around in clubland.
Then on Wednesday 19th May, respected industry magazine Music Week quoted a statement from ‘Matter London’ saying, ‘We can confirm that the Matter nightclub has temporarily closed over the summer period with a view to re-launching later in the year. This decision has been taken by the owners of Matter. The reopening will be considered over the course of the next few months and we will keep you advised when further information is available.’
And on Thursday 20th May, Tube problems were cited as the club’s main problem in the London Evening Standard. But according to our research, Music Week’s ‘Matter London’ statement actually comes from AEG Europe, the company who own the O2 complex.
No official statement has come from matter yet. So we can only hope for the best… and tell you when we know for sure.
