Celebrate 30 Years Of Good Times With Norman JayWritten by Manu Ekanayake Tuesday, 24 May 2011 21:48 News -Strut Records have yet another great release coming up – this time it’s Norman Jay’s Good Times, the 30th anniversary edition, with tracks from Curtis Mayfield, Mario Biondi and Jacob Miller too. Essential summertime flex…
Come Tuesday 19th July, you’ll be able to celebrate a very special anniversary indeed. Norman Jay’s Good Times Sound System changed the game for Notting Hill Carnival sound systems in 1981, by playing soul music alongside the reggae that had traditionally dominated the event. And it’s been instrumental to the Carnival experience every year since; Norman’s Good Times mix of classic soul, funk, hip-hop, house and even D&B is always an essential Notting Hill experience... when the sun blazes down, nobody does it better than dance music’s favourite MBE! This time there’s the always-amazing Curtis Mayfield repping the soul side of things with Victory, 80s boogie gets a nod from Zalmac on the amazing (and mega-rare) Dreamin’, there’s hip-hop business from Basement Chemist and a sunshine-filled version of My Girl from Mario Biondi which is pure Italian gold. Listen, learn and appreciate. Tracklist
