NYE -
Looking forward to one of the biggest nights in the clubbing calendar? We know you are, that’s why we’ve been hanging on until late in the day to bring you the best bashes in London town this New Year’s Eve…so, in no particular order, here we go...
- Wang – proving that London’s underground scene is as strong as ever (and that proper electro will never go out of style), Wang gave us one of our best nights out of the year at their last party. So we’re sure they’ll be rocking this NYE at Cable, especially with Andrew Weatherall playing a 4 hr set and fellow Wang-fans A Guy Called Gerald and Radioactive Man guesting too.
-
Fabric – how could we sleep on these guys? After they came back strong from their financial woes, they’re back with a New Year’s bang starring a nice mix of the usual suspects and some talented new boys too. So that’s Steve Bug, Jay Haze (live, people) and Cassy in Room 1, Paco Osuna, Hearththrob (also live) tech it up in Room 2 and over in Room 3 it’s lo*kee, who’ll show off the form that’s made them the craziest Sunday party crew in town. Oh yeah, them and those other guys…
-
Half Baked – yes indeed, just when you thought it was safe to stay in on a Sunday, Half Baked have been hammering out the underground house and techno sounds (and probably endangering a lot of people’s job prospects with those Monday sickies, but anyway…). So for NYE they’re doing a pre-ticketed event with a theme of ‘Best Of Half Baked’- so that’s the best tunes, the best fancy dress, the best suprises… oh, and Seuil, Kate Simko, Julietta on the decks with the HB residents Greg Brockmann, Robin Ordell and Hamid.
-
Sancho Panza presents One/One/One – because this night combines an ace party crew (Sancho Panza, the house music dons of the Notting Hill Carnival) and an ace new venue (the secretive new 2 arch, one chill-out space in Clerkenwell) to provide something a little different. The ‘Rave Arch’ sees Stu Patterson playing alongside SP boys Matt Brown and Jimmy K-Tel, plus one of our favourite party DJs, the mighty Johnny Rock. Meanwhile in the ‘Disco Arch’ it’s Phoreski, aided by Faith man Dave Jarvis, Low Life’s Michael Cook and the Size Doesn’t Matter boys Mr Shiver and Si Kurrage proving that 7 inches (of vinyl!)is all they need to show you a good time.
-
Secretsundaze – have had a great year, which has seen them go back to the smaller underground parties that made their name in the first place. And in-keeping with the warm-as-toast deep house that has become their calling card, this NYE they have Chez Daimer showing off his resugent Chi-town sounds, John Daly (Drumpoet) and Space Dimension Controller both playing live, as well as James Priestley and Giles Smith, of course. Plus the rest of the Red Gallery hosts the ReviveHER boys Throne of Blood special with the latter’s Populette and James Friedman, plus Bicep and Bi-Bop who run the show in London. AND there’s Jude, Benny Blanco and Mr Wonderful repping Non-Sense in Room 3. Huge!
-
Warm NYE – we’ve waxed lyrically about Warm’s fine collective approach to, er, ‘warm’ house, techno and disco sounds many times, so all we need to say this time is that they’re rocking the CAMP with the Phonica Records crew, plus guests including the amazing Matthew Jonson (playing what must be one of the best live sets of the night), Âme’s Frank (who also plays live), Move D (rock-solid sounds, as ever) and Mark E and Gerd Janson too… plus late-confirmed guest Tim Goldsworthy, the ace producer behind the likes of LCD Soundsytem, Hercules & Love Affair and The Rapture.
-
Dead Sexy NYE – a new party, a new location, and three legendary DJs too. How can this possibly go wrong? Answer: when you end up partying for a worryingly long time and your housemates wonder if you’ve left the country. But if you’re up for a mad one, then check out this party at Nomad – the new club at 58 Old Street – with residents Billy Nasty (techno legend one) and Ollie Munts, Colin Dale (techno legend two), Sam Greenwood from Cambridge party The Priory. And that’s just the upstairs… downstairs, it’s Victor Simonelli (house / disco legend three), playing alongside East London dons JB and Nils Hess, Charlotte Michelle and Danny M too.
-
Horse & Groom NYE – pub priced drinks but top quality raving from three party crews here at the disco pub. So that’s Discovery, who have special guest Ray Mang from DFA and Rob Mello alongside ressies Neil Thornton, Guille Bo and Dave Rose, Fragment, who keep it mixed-up genre-wise with Mad as Hell, Moman/ Fragment DJs & special guests TBA and finally the Bad Dimension Disco Crew & Kid Who, who host the Boudoir Room. Not bad for a tenner, especially considering it goes until 6AM…
-
Bugged Out NYE – taking place at new club XOYO, this one is a showcase for all the Bugged Out crew’s fave acts from this year. Oh, and they’re firmed up with the Pump Up The Voume 90s bash too, so expect anthems from years gone by in the second room from Lou & Nova, Brendan Long, Wang Chung, Sophie Lloyd and Naomii, while the Bugged Out main room keeps it more contemporary with beats from Friendly Fires DJing alongside Riton, L-Vis 1990, Hannah Holland (the queen of Bastard Batty Bass) and Matt Walsh. Epic (and it’s an all-nighter too, unlike recent parties at this venue – let’s hope they sort that properly in 2011!)
-
Eastern Electrics NYE: Back To The Tunnels – ending with a real blinder here, as Eastern Electrics gets even crazier than it ever has before – and that is saying something when you’ve booked the likes of Steve Bug, Kode 9 and Justin Martin – but this time they’ve got special US guest Matthew Dear (also known as Audion for his more experimental workouts) playing in the Bloc-hosted Room 2, with Roska, Instru:Mental and Joker and MC Nomad. But if that’s all a bit too out there for you, Mulletover and Crosstown Rebels host the Rebel Rave in Room 1, with their stalwarts Damian Lazarus, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Geddes showing off their house & techno skills. All this, plus Room 3 boasts Man Make Music boys Sketchy and Another Amit and ‘genre-benders’ Sound Pellegrino hosting Solo, as well as their own inimitable skills. A big line-up for a big, big night.
