Remixes by Jaymo & Andy George

Not only do they hold a much in demand residency at Ibiza's infamous We Love... Space events, they're also in charge of the up and coming Moda label and UK events of the same name. And did we already mention they were two of the youngest DJs to have ever recorded an Essential Mix for BB1 Radio 1? Meet Jaymo and Andy George, two youngesters who play everything from disco to techno to electro, indie and... well, pretty much anything they feel could shake the walls of any club. On the studio side of things, Jaymo and Andy have been dropping a couple of sweet ass remixes for Miike Snow, Passion Pit and Toddla T as well as having released a couple of solo productions such as the highly acclaimed Tension, and Midnight (4AM)... more than enough reason to start following these guys, 'cuz trust us, there's a lot more where that came from.

We recently sat down with Jaymo and Andy to talk Ibiza, their Moda label and events, and much more...

1. Hi guys thanks for taking the time to do this interview. How have you been lately?
Really good thanks – enjoying the Summer, the weather, the festivals and of course Ibiza!

2. Moda vol1. got released on the 23rd of May. Tell us a little about the reason why you decided to put together a compilation...
We’ve been releasing singles on our Moda Music record label for almost two years, which means we’ve got a strong stable of artists and extended family. The album was all about showcasing the Moda sound but also the chance to wrap it up in the Moda style, which you can see if you buy the CD. Moda isn’t just about what you hear, it’s about what you see and what you experience. The album showcases many of our new signings, as well as some of the ones people already know, including Fenech Soler, Shake Aletti & of course the Moda crew, which is Tom Staar, Toy Tigers and us two. Musically it touches everything from Indie, to House, to Disco and Techno – but it’s cohesive at the same time. We’re very proud of the end product, it’s come out really well and had so much positive feedback.

3. You’ve played several times in Ibiza this summer, how have your recent visits to the island been?
We started our residency at We Love… Space this year, and it’s amazing. It’s unquestionably one of the best club nights in the world – it’ll be written about when people document the history of clubbing in hundreds of years time as one of the most influential parties on the island and even the world. We’ve been hosting the Sunset Terrace with guests like Greg Wilson and Alex Metric. The music policy has kept a focus on House and Disco, and the vibe in there has been incredible. It’s one of our favourite places in the world to DJ, it’s just electric.

4. You also run Moda events in the UK – do you think you’ve managed to capture the vibe of the parties on to the CD?

CD 1 is more about kicking back, driving in your car or hanging out at the park, whereas CD 2 is more the sound of a Moda party. The entire album captures the sound of the record label, more than the actual parties. Much like our BBC Radio 1 shows, it’s quite eclectic, but is based mostly around electronic music. Oh, and almost all the music on there is exclusive, so you wont have heard it anywhere before.

5. You’ve risen to fame pretty fast, are there many of your goals as international Dj’s that you feel you’ve achieved already?
Our goals vary dependant on what day of the week it is – and by that what we mean is that our objectives when we’re in radio mode are different to when we’re in tour mode or studio mode. Having concentrated on radio a lot last year, we’ve been mostly UK focused, however we decided this year to free up a lot more time to write music. We released a four track EP a couple of months ago, and plan to release 3 more EP’s before 2012 – however they will be 2 tracks + 2 remixes as we want to ensure it is quality not just quantity. As far as goals we’ve already achieved, things like having already done an Essential Mix as well as mixing a covermount CD for Mixmag – they are two things we’re really proud of.

6. Do you prefer mixing live on the radio or out on the road on tour?
Variety is the spice of life, right? The great thing about being radio presenters, producers, label A&R’s and event organisers means we are not constantly doing the same thing – which keeps our minds active and excited. We don’t prefer one specific thing, we just thrive of new ideas, sounds and activities – and they all fuel each other. It’s the best way!

7. When you invite guest dj’s to play at your Moda events do you have a certain criteria your looking for? , How did this differ, if at all to what you look for when your signing new artists to your label Moda Music?

The artists we book to play at Moda parties have to be exciting and doing something special. Each event is a mix of big names, like say Erol Akan, Aeroplane, Switch, Riva Starr or something like that, alongside fresh up and coming talent. Often then are people we have signed to the label – that is the beauty of covering so many bases, we can sign and develop artists and bands, have them play at Moda events and make them part of the family. People trust Moda so it’s the perfect platform.

8. What can people expect if they come and see you guys play? – any parties here in Holland planned?
We often switch up our sound a little bit, depending on where we’re playing and what time we’re on – but all sets are built around House, Disco & Techno. If we’re playing early then maybe it’s more House & Disco, if later then perhaps we’ll get a bit tougher a bit quicker. But it’s all about the vibe and the energy – our ability to know what is gonna get a party bumping has got us where we are today, so hopefully you can trust in us! Our next gig in Holland is actually on a boat, which sets sail from Amsterdam and travels back to the UK.

9. So should we look out for Moda Music Vol. 2?
Absolutely, though it’s not likely to be around until next Summer. Think of it as an annual that takes a glimpse at what’s happened and gives you a sneak peek into the future.

10. Thanks guys, and finally any words of wisdom for our readers?
If you wanna keep up with all things Moda then www.thisismoda.com is the place you need to be – we put all kinds of shit on there, including mixes, photos, videos and that kind of stuff. Other than that if you come to one of our gigs then make sure you come say hello!
