Bloc Comes To London In 2012

The Bloc Festival bods have announced the details of their new London venue for 2012, which will take place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th July.

Yes, the rumours are true: the 2012 Bloc Festival won’t be at its usual home of Butlins, Minehead anymore. Instead, the Bloc crew are upping sticks and moving to London, more specifically the London Pleasure Gardens which are located in the Royal Victoria Docks in East London.

Check out a short filn about Bloc 2012 from Bloc. on Vimeo here:

Bloc’s new venue will have a 6 am license, which is not surprising considering that the crew behind the Pleasure Gardens are the same people who run the Shangri-La section of Glastonbury. This also means that the Hub stage from Shangri La (which will be a permanent part of the Pleasure Gardens) will be used especially for Bloc, as will ‘a 30 metre diameter geodesic dome’, so the Bloc website promises us.

But Bloc 2012 will also use the open structure of the huge new venue to create its own special arenas, all of which will be covered so no one’s dealing with the good old British weather while they’re getting their rave on. This said, a big part of Bloc’s-gone-by was the option to nip off to a chalet for afters or to chill for a bit – it’s hard to have the same flexibility in a nearby hotel. Still, we’re still looking forward to the line-up being announced on the 1st of February…and don’t sleep on the Early Bird offer that gets you 6 tickets for the price of 5. That’s for one month only, so move fast!
