Apparat Fuels The DJ-KiCKS SeriesWritten by the B&B Crew Wednesday, 01 September 2010 09:00 News - Apparat will mix and compile the next episode in the acclaimed DJ-KiCKS series. Its content? According to Sasha himself, he "ended up using good new music; music that almost gave me hope that there’s more out there than boring minimal techno." Interesting... Apparat is renowned for his melodic, highly emotive compositions that merge electronica to minimal, neo-trance and bits of pop. So far he has released three albums on Shitkatapult, collaborated with Ellen Alien on the Orchestra Of Bubbles release and more recently teamed up with Modeselektor as Moderat. This edition in the DJ-KiCKS series, however, sees him taking on DJ duties. On his DJ-KiCKS, Apparat switches from the deeper and more intelligent stuff from Oval and Autechre to more rhythmic and grooving tracks from Martyn, Patrice Baumel and Ramandanman. “I didn’t want to make this kind of "smart" mix, that’s eclectic and sounds like it’s done "on purpose;" but I need to do different things to keep myself motivated," says Sasha. "At first I wanted to make a collection of influences, all kinds of old songs, but then sometimes with those mixes it’s hard to keep some kind of flow and they’re just not very easy to listen to, so I ended up using good new music; music that almost gave me hope that there’s more out there than boring minimal techno.†The mix includes two exclusive Apparat tracks and an unreleased track from Telefon Tel Aviv, which will all be released in the form of an EP later this year. The tracklist is a blended and varied affair with tracks from the aformentioned Autechre, Oval, Patrice Baumel, Martyn, and a Four Tet Remix of Born Ruffian’s I Need A Life. Apparat: “The mix isn’t that balanced when it comes to melody I guess… There’s a lot of sweetness on there, but it is dark and mysterious at points. I guess the bittersweet-ness has long been kind of my thing and with this mix I was just trying to spice it up a bit.†Apparat’s DJ KiCKS will be released October 26th on !K7 Recordings. The tracklist has not yet been released but we'll be sure to fill you in as soon as it hits the digital airwaves. Check out Apparat's discography on iTunes Apparat - Headup (HD)
