Andrew Weatherall Launches His New London Residency

A Love From Outer Space starts on Thursday 20th May at intimate London venue The Drop. Expect Andrew Weatherall and his fellow resident Sean Johnston to preside over some serious ‘psyche disco’ shenanigans.

So what’s ‘psyche disco?’ we hear you ask. Well, Sean Johnston describes his night’s new music policy as ‘Never knowingly exceeding 122 BPM... Kraut rock will rub up against dub, post-punk and sleazy disco.’ But the fact that A Love From Outer Space (named for the classic AR Kane track) boasts such a diverse music policy shouldn’t really be a surprise.

Weatherall’s sets have always contained musical curios of all kinds, even when he’s playing somewhere like Fabric. Plus he hosts this monthly lo-fi beatdown with longtime associate Sean Johnston, whom he immortalised in a recent Boardroom track, Brother Johnston’s Travelling Disco Consultancy. ‘Andrew and I have been playing tunes to each other for years going, "Listen to this..",’ Sean explains, ‘But we rarely get the chance to air them in public. And the Drop is really small and off the beaten track enough to only attract the proper heads. We’re both really excited about it...’ Can you blame them?
