BnB Spotlight: No Dough Music

No Dough Music

Among the many creative platforms in today’s music industry, No Dough Music certainly is one of the most interesting and varied sources if you want to share your workings with likeminded artists the world over.

With its foundations being firmly rooted in an unconditional love for experimental music, No Dough has grown out to become a recognized community at which producers can share their ideas, work together, retrieve heavy hitting samples for their compositions and possibly even have their records released amidst a worldwide audience with a love for leftfield productions.

No Dough Music frequently releases samples packs, of which the massive Deconstructed Deluxe 2.0 is the most recent one, whilst also offering free releases by up and coming artists from time to time. Sharing audience to boost creativity, that is probably what No Dough Music defines best. Yet, the organization keeps on pushing the envelope by constantly looking for new ways to expose music they feel should be heard by anyone. Whether it’s commercially viable or not is not the issue. It’s the music that counts, and in that sense, No Dough is right on the money. We did'nt need more to go for a chat with the guys over at No Dough and check what it's all about.

So the first question which pops to mind is; what is No Dough Music?

It's an interesting question!  No Dough is all about musically creative people. Our Idea is always to have a strong family of artists - all working together as part of a wider but close community. We wanted to bring together aspects of music we were all interested in, as it's all so compatible, giving freedom to our producers to do as they please on their releases, with very little guidance, apart from it must be inspiring and exciting!

So much nowadays is throwaway, temporary, made to the lowest standards. It’s possible to make money by merely copying something that's already successful, but that’s not original or ground breaking and never will be. But to answer your question, No Dough is more than a record label, more than a maker of samples for producers. We're an evolving concept striving for originality, trying to add more meaning to everything we do.

We have opinions, thoughts, creations and wild parties; and we strive to do things for the right reasons; we make music because we love it and it touches our souls, we sign new artists because they inspire us and many become friends. We create samples because we want to share our passion for our sound and the very process of making music with everyone!

Who are the people behind No Dough?
For a while Antonio ran No Dough - mostly for his own productions - until the start of 2008 when Matt became involved. They decided to push it up to the next level.  After that everything was added pretty organically - we spent a long time on the new website working to forge something that could be a base for everything we were creating and would be in the future...
Talking about the website, it seems that's the nerve centre of No Dough right? What is going on there?
On the web-site we like to give our members free releases, so there will always be something for members to share and talk about. We wanted our music to really shine and stand the test of time. The free records get the same mastering, the same promotion and marketing, they are  shared with our members...because to us it’s the music that matters and sharing it.  Beyond that, if members  support us by buying a premium sample pack or record from the store, we know they’re doing it because what we created has value, and it isn't just the latest trend.

Many people think in genres, what are the genres No Dough are most active in?
There are 2 aspects to the label:
No Dough Red –  where you will find the more ‘big club’, Techno side of things.  A lot more peak time material for the louder rooms!!   And…
No Dough Green - which can vary from Slo-mo to Disco and House, definitely the more musically adventurous stuff. We like having this split as we're equally into both genres.  Sometimes they can even be part of the same progression through a night...variety is the spice of life...and we love it spicy! Within our records we also like a lot of variation;  different tracks from the same record may suit different DJs, but are connected through an integral idea, a concept. Something we think is sorely missing from a lot of the “Attack of the Clones BP top10” material out there!  Not that there’s anything wrong with that, fair play to them. But that's definitely not what No Dough Music is about.

What are the plans for the future? What can we expect from No Dough?
Look out for some amazing sample packs and in quick succession, some of the hottest records we have ever released and maybe a regular party in London on the horizon...

Oh and of course there's more free stuff for members, like the podcast by PAS right below!
