BnB Miami - Housemeister Interview

Housemeister

Housemeister started out as a DJ back in ’94, “music without gaps in between two track” was the reason for Martin to start mixing. During his early years he has been influenced by artists such as The Pet Shop Boys, 2 Live Crew, Technotronic and KLF. Nowadays he is playing all over the world for crowds going mad to his “hypnotic sound research”, as he describes his sound himself.

This week he’s playing at Made Event’ Sunday School with the whole Boysnoize crew, he’s got an new LP ready to be released  and the accompanying pre-EP will be dropped next month. Time for us to go for a chat and check what to expect!

Hey Martin, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. How are you?
I’m good mate! I’m just back from my China/Australia tour, had two week ins Berlin and arrived in Austin today for SXSW. After that I’ll be winding up my little US tour in Miami. The album is ready, the pre-EP is ready and will be released in April with remixes from Boys Noize, Feadz, Cosmin, TRG, Toktok, Bonaparte and myself. Spring is coming, I’m really happy and I think this will be a great year.

Talking about Miami next week. You'll be performing with the whole Boysnoize crew at Sunday School. What can we expect?
Party? Dancefloor crazy!

You are featured on this year’s Miami Noize album. Can you tell us something about that one?
I made a real Nu-school-Booty track with my 808 and the Octatrak. I really love it. Get get getgetget get naked! Fits good with Miami, bitch!

Talking about albums, you've got your own Music Is Awesome coming up. What can we expect from the album? In what ways does it differ from your earlier material?
Party? Haha, the difference to the earlier albums is that this time each and every track is made for the dancefloor. I can play all of the tracks in my live set. Furthermore there are two co-ops, one with Boys Noize and one with Jan Driver.

For all gear junkies out there, what equipment did you use to create the tracks?
I’m a machine and synthesizer lover and collector. My favourite and master is my Elektron Monomachine, the keyboard version (just 100 world wide ;-)). Her slaves are the 808, 707, 505 and 303 which are all modified and unique. Furthermore I use the Machine drum, the Octatrack, Dave Smith Poly Evolver, Mono Evolver, Micro Modular and lots of rare guitar effects. When I press play on my Monomachine all other machine starts running. I have two Allen & Heath 16-channel mixers and four soundcards so I can record 32 parts at the same time. Or a big band when the situation asks for it ;-).

Any cool tips & tricks for aspiring producers out there?
Buy some old dum machines and cheap old synthesizers. That’s the easiest way to learn how it works while having fun. When you know how one works, then you know them all.

Is there anything else you’d like to share our audience?
Follow me on Twitter to get all the news and sometimes a free track ;) thanxxx

We would like to thanks Housemeister for his time.
