When Pioneer introduced their new CDJ 2000 media players last September, the question was not if but when the CD-DJ monopolist would come up with a matching mixer. Now, it's here.

Judging a book by its cover, you’ll probably have to resort to the manual for once to come to terms with the device, which touts as many functions as your average midsized spacecraft. Apart from a cosmetic match with the CDJ 2000 its number one upgrade must be its ‘lemur’ style touchscreen that allows for 7 band mixing, track trigger or multitouch fx control on the go. Yummy! Other notable improvements are its six dedicated audio processors, a host of of new FX and control options, whilst retaining that familiar Pioneer design that we know so well ever since the DJM 600 came out.

In case you were wondering: will it break my bank?, the answer is probably: yes: with a price of roughly 3000 euro’s, (and 1600 for each matching cd player), the whole package will set you back a healthy 6 grand, if you are satisfied with a double deck.  But, for the price that buys you a decent laptop, an upmarket soundcard and an onslaught of controller options, you get a computer disguised as a mixer, an industry grade soundcard, and a fully midi-enabled control surface, the all new Pioneer flagship is likely to continue its legacy of being the mixer of choice for the world’s leading jocks and venues in the years to come.
