Trance Energy 2010

imageEvent Review
ID&T's annual Trance Energy event (at Utrecht's Jaarbeurs venue) by is globally known as the biggest indoor trance event  with each edition seeing only the very best in trance and progressive gracing the decks. This year's edition (held on April 3rd) proved to be another highlight in 'TE's' impressive history (spanning over a decade), and saw gigs by BT, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Dash Berlin and Markus Schulz amongst others. Here's what we experienced.

Upon entering the Jaarbeurs venue, Trance Energy immediately revealed its grandeur: slamming trance music, thousands of enthusiastic international clubbers, and a superb organization. Access to the areas was quick and easy, with each room being easily recognizable by their sound and eye-catching decoration. After acquiring enough drink tokens to make it through the first few hours, we headed for the main stage to check out Markus Schulz. We were familiar with his sound and know that it's either all the way or easy going with this guy, but his TE set proved to be a very welcome opener with a slew of catchy and proven hits. Since the atmosphere was great, the sounds pretty enjoyable and we had enough space for some sneaker shuffling, we decided to wait for the announced 'live'-set of Armin van Buuren, broadcasted from New York through an impressive screen in the middle of the stage. Even though he wasn't physically present, Armin definitely rocked it with a series of delicious trancers, therewith raising the party vibe in the main room.

Aching for some more ferocious stuff, we went to check out Scott Project at the Hard Stage. And the man didn't let us down. "Er wait, this is TE right? So were was the Trance element?" This was pure a-grade harddance stuff, as manic, crisp clear beats manifested themselves throughout the pitch black room without any mercy. It surely did cause mass hysteria on the floor though!

We spend the rest of the night criss-crossing the Jaarbeurs to check out DJs such as Sean Tyas (amazing gig), Cosmic Gate (meh), Marco V (totally nailing it), and Simon Patterson (quite possibly the best set of the night). And man, we sure did have a good time. In other words, TE once again managed to captivate us with its unique, not-to-be-found-elsewhere-vibe, killer lineup, and wonderful vibe!

Food:
*** Your average party food (hotdogs we mean, you nasty). But that stuff's tasty after a dozen beers!
Drinks: *** Modestly priced, plenty of choice in fizzy drinks but the beer had a rather moldy taste.
Music: **** Top notch. Lots of diversity within the trance and progressive spectrum by both estabslihed as future heroes. Musically speaking one of the best TE's we've visited.
Toilets: No queues, back in a minute, ace.
Decoration: *** The stages were pretty nicely decorated, but that's pretty much it.
Sound quality: Very, very good, although a bit soft at some points.
Visuals: Not too much out of the ordinary, but the lasers were well cool and effective. Those strobo lights are better left untouched though, thanks.
Overall organization: **** Extremely well. All areas are easily accessible. There were maps in abundance and there was more than enough space to dance. The Jaarbeurs is simply the perfect venue for events this size.
Crowd: **** thousands of trancers from all over the world (Canada, the States, Turkey, Germany, France, Spain...etc.) Talking about an event with international appeal!
Chill-factor: **** TE offers a lot of benches to cool down. And best of all, they're were the action's at.
Vibe: ***** YES YES YES. F*cking amazing!

BnB's verdict: An event not to be missed if you're a trancer, simple as that. 9/10.
