Motley Crue Turns Phoenix Upside DownWritten by Carmen Garza
With an explosive, rip-roaring entrance onto the stage filled with pyrotechnics, Motley Crue challenged the decibel range of the din created by the Space Shuttle entering into the Earth's atmosphere. Motley Crue is currently on their North American Glam-A-Geddon tour headlining for legendary acts Poison and New York Dolls. The Crue fans gathered on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Ashley Furniture Homestore Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona will never be the same. The air was thick with the smell of stale beer and overcooked, enthusiastic fans who had been withstanding the 105 degree F desert heat for at least three hours. With these vibrant rockers gracing the lineup who could blame them?
Motley Crue's songs may have slowed down a bit, but these 30 year seasoned performers played with the zest and zither of angst filled teenagers. Vince Neil sang with poetic glamour while Nikki Sixx frantically plucked on his bass guitar and Mick Mars sent shivers down the audience’s spine with his bone-chilling lead guitar licks. However, it was Tommy Lee who introduced the 360 degree authentic rollercoaster track and, with every hair raising flip, made good use of it during his drum solo. He even selected a very lucky girl from the crowd to experience this topsy-turvy loop as she shrieked with delight while hanging onto Tommy for dear life (being strapped in by a harness ensured her safety as well). Can you say lawsuit? The Crue jammed to all of their monstrously famous tunes as indicated in the setlist below: Surely, it was a blast from the 80's past for the majority of the fans gathered. The desert didn’t sleep that night. For more details of the band’s great North American tour as well as their crazy, rock-n-roll shenanigans, go to www.motley.com. Photo credits: Carmen Garza
