Vince Watson - Atom EP (Tresor)

Vince Watson turns to Tresor for the release of his latest EP, the three-tracked titled Atom.

Veteran producer Vince Watson has always been one of our favorite techno producers due to this highly distinctive warm Detroit-ish sound. The story behind his latest EP is a remarkable one: Vince personally sent an email to the Tresor office  to express his excitement over Future Beat Alliance’s Machines Can’t Help EP, and subsequently asked if he could do an EP for the label. The result? The Atom EP.

The release opens with two of Vince’s trademarked Detroit techno tunes. First up is the title track ‘Atom’, an uptempo and very repetitive tune filled with deep synth structures and Vince entrancing beat programming. The break sees trance synths emerging from the depths, after which a huge climax sets this track truly ablaze. ‘Flux’ follows up with another great deal of warmth woven through hypnotic beats and deep bass tones. The flanged synth waves give this track a bit of a sinister vibe, which is a recommendation in this case.

However, the third and last track Kaleidoscope is what it’s all about on this EP. The track opens like any other minimal techno tune, but gradually evolves into an utterly beautiful and stunningly emotive piece of techno. Using a deep, ever changing Detroitian synth melody and glowing keys as its key elements, the track slowly blossoms into an incredibly atmospheric masterpiece with an almost incomprehensible vibe. Very hypnotic, incredibly warm, a perfect track to play in dark techno basements.

Our verdict:
Amazing. This EP once again proves why Vince is among our favorite techno producers.
