The Model - Love Songs For Robots

Dark Techno Baroc, that's how lauded producer The Model likes to desribe his own sound. We'd rather call it energetic electro-disco with a spacey twist to it... Anyway, here's our opinion on his new EP titled Love Songs For Robots, forthcoming on the My Favorite Robot label in September.

After releases on International Deejay Gigolo and Traum Schallplatten, The Model now turns to My Favorite Robot for his new EP. Opening track Still In My Heart is a static, retrofuturistic electro-disco tune with tech-house bits weaved in and a massive bassline serving as the tune's engine. I would go as far as to compare this to the so-called 'Westcoast Sound Of Holland', the league of producers such as Alden Tyrell and Legowelt. The synths add a bit of melancholy to the overall, yet all stays perfectly in balance. Definitely feeling this one. The Vocal Mix of the tune adds vox by My Favorite Robot, giving it a bit of a Tiga-esque feel. Tasty stuff for electropoppers, but somehow not as cool as the original mix.

Sound wise, You (Original Mix) is a continuation of the vibe laid down on the opening tracks. Again we egt to hear beefy bass stabs, synth waves and that thick sinister electro vibe. However, this one's much darker and maybe even catchier. Awesome stuff. I could imagine this one rocking the roof of any club. Last one up is Japansese Garden, a tune that heavy relies on that typical late 80s house rhythm yet looks at the distant horizon in terms of synth usage. A great mash of house, electro-disco and techno. Love Songs For Robots delivers four oustanding robotic rock tunes with a subtle techno touch. Great stuff if you're into the futuristic side of disco, but also well worth checking out if you're a (Detroit-)tech head. Bet this one will be stuck in my record bag for months to come.
