The Boardroom Presents.... Radikal Majik's Mental Health EP

imageHouse -

Two members of East London's shadowy Boardroom Collective launch their new off-shoot, The Boardroom Presents... with a fine selection of moody electronic goodness.

Radikal Majik is the production alias of Boardroom main man Steve Boardman and Rad Rice – who was a resident at seminal UK clubs Love Ranch and Checkpoint Charlie – and from our first listen to Finachetto we knew this EP was worth waiting for. It’s a liquid-sounding deep houser that’s sure to slide down nicely on the dancefloor, but with that darkly menacing touch which we expect from any Boardroom production.

This menacing vibe continues on What Next?, which takes us down a more electro road that manages to be both infectiously rhythmic and also ever so slightly unsettling. Radioactive Man’s been playing this one out, which should tell you everything you need to know – it’s a proper dancefloor throbber, very nice indeed.

And finally we come to Mental Health Time Bomb (another great title) which is even more haunting; with its thunderous bass and storming organ sounds, it’s the soundtrack to the best Halloween party you've ever been to.

Our verdict:
We honestly can’t pick a favourite here; all the tracks work in a slightly different way, but they could be played in the same set at different times. We look forward to future musical missives from The Boardroom; if this EP is anything to go by, there’s some real treats coming up…
