Sleeparchive - Ronan Point

Hotly tipped by none other than Jeff Mills himself, Sleeparchive now makes his debut on the Tresor label...

He’s been on the underground radar of Miss Kitten, The Hacker, and countless others with a taste for good music for years, but we haven’t heard much from Stephan Metzger as of late (at least not as Sleeparchive). That’s all about to change now that Tresor has revitalized its label, with Sleeparchive’s Ronan Point being the next release. Stephan cites Jeff Mills and Drexciya as two of his biggest influences, something that can be heard when putting this four-track gem on. Ronan Point One is a deep, dark and throbbing Detroit-ish techno tune with an oldschool UR flavor to it, while follow up Ronan Point Two is a more distorted take on the techno genre, with sinister bass tones and gritty kicks coming together in the most awesome way. Ronan Point Three is a more meandering, off-beat techno track that’s as restless as druggy, after which the EP closes with the bass-heavy Ronan Point Four, a track so deep and dirty you;’ll find yourself playing it over and over again.

Our verdict:
Sleeparchive’s latest outings is all about utilizing the bare essences of stripped down funk in utterly mysterious cuts that do not fail to cause havoc. A winner, and a recommendation if you’re a sucker for techno along the lines of UR, Mills, Hood and Drexciyan dirtiness.
