Slam - Stepback (Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback + Mark Henning Remixes)

To celebrate their 20 year anniversary, Soma is re-releasing some of their biggest track, along with fresh remixes from likeminded artists. Up next is Slam’s Stepback track, which gets the remix treatment from Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback and Mark Henning…
Up first is the Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback of Stepback, a deep, mid-tempo techno slammer that’s in synch with Beyer’s recent releases on his own Drumcode imprint. Fueled by menacing kick drums, reverb bass, the track slowly transforms into an awesome machine funk piece of big room techno with massive fx, cut up vox and that typical industrial Beyer/Dahlback vibe. The break on this one is insane, as is the climax in which all elements are combined into an explosion of pure floor destruction. Mark Hennings’s remix is equally techy but less destructive, delivering a more tech house based version with nasty bass, loads of great percussion elements and a trippy vibe. Killer track.
Our verdict:
Both remixes are incredibly fat, but the Beyer/Dahlback collabo wins by an inch. But who cares anyway? Huge EP, huge sounds, you’re gonna love it.
Our verdict: 8.2/10
