Remain - Ralph / Digression EP

imageHouse -
Founder of Meant Records, Remain, releases his fourth EP with remixes from Ewan Pearson, Pan/Tone and and Plein Soleil.

The EP contains two original tracks (Raplh & Digression) and three additional remixes. The original mix of Ralph is a moody house stomper with a repetitive bass pattern as its engine. Along the way we geat to hear a series of well placed drum breaks and a catchy electro melody on the side, which makes it a pretty solid affair altogether. Nevertheless, this record might be of bigger effect in the clubs than it is at home. Digression is a slower moving house groove bordering to elctrohouse and comes with a great deal of wobbly bass structures and silky synths. Too bad we get to hear a lot of out-of-sync tones and, again, too mcuh repetition.

Ewan Pearson's rework of Ralph is a much more adventurous version marked by playful keys and a very funky groove, after which Pan/Tone presents a very deep and melodic remix of Digression. Plein Soleil (aka Chloé and Krikor) close the EP with a subtle house version of Digression with the result being a somewhat strange sounding but very enjoyabl cut.

The original versions didn't float our boat, but the remixes are worth a listen. Still, there's much better stuff out there.
