Paul Bowen - New Beginning

Luna Records boss Paul Bowen follows up last summer's Black Matter single with a brand new EP featuring a remix by Chris Lattner.




First up on this four-tracker is Excel, a deep progressive house tune with wobbly bass play. The rhythm's well effective but overall speaking it could have used a bit more diversity as things start to sound a bit repetitive after a while.  CHris Lattner turns the track into an even warmer house tune with the use of a nice variety of oldschool elements, pads, and reverb-dipped bass. The third cut on the EP comes in the form of Busta, a much more sinsiter and 'colder' groove with minimal-esque percussion work and a more static rhythm. A very deep tune but again, nothing we haven't heard before. Finishing the EP is New Beginning, another slice of warm house that unfortunately contains a few false bass notes...

Our verdict:
Although its content is well put together, this EP sadly misses out on originality to really make a difference.
