MODE - Lo Fi OdysseyWritten by Youri Jozee House/Disco - Lo Fi Odyssey may be MODE's first official release, but listening to it reveals the man's talent for creating dubby, slow-moving house fueled by warm Rhodes bass. It's a bit disco in a way, yet it unmistakable draws on the warm elements of authentic house music across a patetrn of slow-paced beats. The original mix of Lo Fi Odyssey is deep and sensual mix of sexy synthesizers, warm disco elements and a touch of jazzy drums here and there. Very nice, very chilled and impressive as a whole. The In Flagranti Mix turns to a more techno orientated structure while retaining the warm elements from the original. The result is a funky Detroit mix featuring a wide variety of drums while the heavy bass and disco synths form a remarkably solid combination. The remix by The Stallions is a haunting, ambient-esque adventure with a few oriental vibes and a slow beat near the end, while the absolute highlight of this EP is saved for last: the massive disco stomper that is Pete Herbert's mix. This one's a superhot, charming and god damn funky cut that will set any floor on fire. MODE's debut EP is a very original and diverse package that will grasp the attention of DJs from various backgrounds. Well worth your cash we say.
