Maya Jane Coles – Don't Put Me In Your Box

imageHouse -

It’s been a big year for Maya Jane Coles and this release will show you why – lovely deep house-styled beats that really show what she's capable of.

You don’t explode onto the scene like Maya Jane Coles has without having a definite sense of style. She knows what she wants as an artist and her releases always deliver it. So when you take your first listen to Parallel Worlds and start nodding to that kick and swaying to the beats, she’ll have you right where she wants you and you’ll stay there until the end of this Hypercolour EP. Moving from stylish modern house to the more upbeat, melodic deepness of Something In The Air (probably our favourite here, with its sheer echoing brilliance), then on to the low-slung sound of the well-named Dub Child and finally to the techy Cutting It Fine… it’s all there, a treat for lovers of fine modern house music.

Our verdict:
A very good release here, but if you want something out of the ordinary, then you should look to In The Air as it could really break up a heavier set. Parallel Worlds is also the kind of track that just works instantly the first time you hear it. Those are the real gems here.
