Marco Bailey - Conganhas

imageEp Review

Christian Smith's Tronic label's on fire ever since it's relaunch. Next month sees the release of the epic Christian Smith remix of Carl Craig's At Les (check out our review here), PLUS a new Marco Bailey EP. Here's our opinion.

Marco Bailey is credited as one of the globe's leading techno artists with a career spanning almost two decades. The man has been playing in every corner of the world as well as having released numerous EPs and mix comps, but fact is that we haven't heard that much spectacular for quite some time now. However, this two-tracker is definitely worth every penny. The title track, Congonhas breathes that typical Bailey sound while perfectly matching Tronic's uptempo prog/techno vibe. The overall vibe of this one is that of an oldschool techno track, yet it features the technical wizardry one would expect from 2010 electronic music. A full-on techno stomper injected with a nasty groove and a seriously rocking climax near the end. Just the way we like it.

The b-side comes in the form of the stripped-down Upgrade, a moody, less uptempo techno tune that lacks the element of surprise, but still includes a wide variety of raw bits to make it a filthy floor rocker. Watch out for that bass.

Final verdict: The title track's the winner here. Overall speaking Marco Bailey delivers a chunky techno package that's worth checking out, although there's much better materail out there to be honest.
