Laurent Garnier - Flashback (Remixes) (Tronic)Written by Youri Jozee EP Review - It takes balls of steel to rework classics such as this one. In fact, we have heard so much rubbish remixes over the past years that we've become wary of such projects. Then again, Chris DID drop an amazing remix before (yup, the At Les rework indeed), so we gave this one the benefit of the doubt... and we're glad we did! Christian Smith & Wehbba's Remake is a wonderful 2010 update of the track, fueled by the guys' trademarked dreamy tech-house sound while retaining the oldschool synths from the original. The build-up is brilliant, and so is the downright evil breakdown and subtle climax. A very dark but very enjoyable remake with loads of twists and turns, well done! Chris & Wehbba's 3AM mix is an even dreamier take on the original, drawing on the many hypnotizing synths layers and dubby percussion. A great DJ tool, but also a tune that would do well at peak time club moments in dark basements. Tronic strikes again with this two-track trailblazer. Both cuts are very well produced and pay homage to the original instead of trying to improve it. The result is a killer release breathing both Garnier's 90s techno vibe as Christian and Wehbba's awesome tech-house sounds. Don't miss out on this one! Rating: 8.5/10 Label: Tronic Release date: January 2011 Tracklist: 1. Flashback (Christian Smith & Wehbba's Remake) 2. Flashback (Christian Smith & Wehbba 3AM Mix)
