King Unique - 2 Million SunsWritten by the B&B Crew EP ReviewKing Unique has been rocking it hard lately. New evidence of their bomb-making skills is now about to surface on John Digweed's Bedrock label, and it's an absolute stunner!  Matt Thomas is in his tenth year on the forefront of all things house. However, his latest single can be described as a completely new direction. And honestly, it's big. The EP includes two tracks entitled 2000000 Suns and Feniksas, both balancing on the thin lines between techno, house and progressive. The king himself calls it cosmic techno and I definitely think that pretty well covers its sound. The first track starts off with a solid bass line that has that funky techno drive with a housy feel to it. The more synthy sounds add later on build to a first peak after which the track drops back in to the tech-housy vibe. The whole track actually goes back and forth between some solid techno and dreamy progressive, all blended together in a very thrilling mix. Or as King Unique himself likes to dub it: "2000000 Suns was an early guess at the mass of the black hole that has been found at the centre of our galaxy. I heard about it while I was recording the track and it instantly made me think about those old house music clichés of unity and oneness. It's an inescapable fact that at a molecular level, all of us, you, me and every single person, animal & object that has ever existed on this planet are all going to 'meet again' (in the best traditions of Vera Lynn) in that black hole - along with a few hundred billion other stars and their planets. We truly will be one." The second track Feniksas starts in a more house like fashion with a fat kick-start. The solid bass line is quite speedy compared to the first track:. The basses are far heavier and overall speaking, there are much more sounds incorporated. It really blasts away right from the start and only slows down for a heavenly breakdown with a beautiful melody to carry you away to La La Land of where ever you want to go in your imagination. Once again the track is finished with some carefully crafted synth melodies layered over the propelling percussion. King Unique delivers two absolute bombs both suitable for those peak time moments where everybody just wants a little bit extra. Digweed is enthusiastic as well "Both tracks have been severely road tested by me and are best suited for peak time madness." so what else is left to say other then "Go get it!" Tracklist Rating: 8.5/10
