Jonas Kopp - Alkitran/Vary EP

Jonas Kopp’s latest EP, featuring the songs “Alkitran”, “Vary” along with one remix of each track, is the newest addition to this Argentinean's collection of minimalist electro tracks.

While Kopp’s releases have been well received by the electro scene, this particular set of tracks seems to never come to a head. Alkitran is a track that is hard to really enjoy. It never culminates into anything beyond a repetitive bass drum line and a high hat. This track reeks of excessive computer-generation, something that’s inescapable in this genre, but is painful when it’s so obvious. Something that club-goers would clearly appreciate in its simplicity. It’s a dance-able song, so it’s got that going for it on the rave circuit.

However, both Alkitran and Vary seem to be nothing more than slowly progressing, anti-climatic stony tracks that are, in a word, immature. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there’s a crowd out there for this type of music. I’m sure that in a club setting, in the right mood and environment, these tracks would be great as lead-ups in a mix. On their own, both these songs sound like filler. It’s just not for me. I’d recommend it for those that enjoy minimal tracks, and those who are already interested in Kopp’s productions.
