Jam Factory – Jam Factory Volume 2Written by Manu Ekanayake House -The enigmatic duo that make up Jam Factory return with their second volume of 90s-influeced house goodness. Referencing the 80s is so last decade, darling… The people behind Jam Factory are Ben Rymer (ex-Fat Truckers and Gucci Soundsystem and who has helped the Disco Bloodbath boys with their remixes) and Dan Beaumont (who left Disco Bloodbath late last year to concentrate on this project). And their goal with Jam Factory reflects dance music's love of looking back to look forward; but this time we're going back to 90s house from NYC, not 70s disco or 80s electro. Well, it looks like they’ve achieved their goals – Ocean Calling is certainly a sharp slice of rhythmic tension; all foreboding bass and evil synth stabs, hurtful hi-hats and downright nasty drums... so pure 90s house in its execution. It sounds like the music from a chase scene in a 90s cop show – a good one like NYPD Blue, not a crap one like Nash Bridges. But here at BnB we prefer the delights of Hot & Heavy. It’s a thundering number that’s more atmospheric in style, the bass anchors sharp fx that cut through the track to make it a guaranteed dancefloor broiler. Just like Thick Cut on Jam Factory Volume 1, this is the one for us. Just watch these guys blow up now. Rating: 8.0/10
