Hype Jones & Alex Sayz feat Mario Vasquez - Never Give Up

imageEP Review -
The collaboration of the relatively unknown yet prolific DJ/Producer Hype Jones & Sweden's Alex Sayz on "Never Give Up" (Joia/Nero) creates what the DMC Buzzcharts have called "the vocal dance track of the year".

With a little help on the remixes from Gregori Klosman and rising-star Deniz Koyu, as well as a vocal from ex-American Idol Mario Vasquez (last featured on Sharam's smash hit "Get Wild"), this release is refreshingly full of substance.

The Original mix by Hype Jones & Alex Sayz is a catchy and infectious radio-friendly track that should see plenty of spins. The harmony of melodic synths and crisp drums help to highlight the unique and infectiously warm vocal overtones of Mario Vaszquez. These vocals are not simply vocals; but vocals with a smooth, insatiable flow and deep lyrics that have not been heard in commercial dance music in recent months (maybe years?). The remixes on the package by Gregori Klosman & Deniz Koyu do a beautiful job of taking "Never Give Up" straight from the radio to the club in a BIG way.

Gregori Klosman has collaborated on originals and remixes with such great names as Chuckie and Tristan Garner but it his solo effort on this remix that manages to stand out as one of his best productions to-date. Klosman's remix manages to capture the beauty and the essence of the vocal as it lays across a gorgeous piano breakdown that gives you chills on almost every listen (even the Beatport preview manages to make the hair stand on the back of my neck). The stark contrast of the driving tech-house beat against the almost poetic breakdowns creates a very strong production with a great arrangement holding it together.

The Deniz Koyu Remix starts with an introduction that sets the mood for the entire track. Deniz Koyu creates his own distinctive chord progression and builds a whole new melody taking the vocal in a completely different direction. This track would be much better and would get many more club plays if there was a dub version as the beat would work so much better on its own with VERY little vocal. Hopefully Nero releases a dub version of this as well as more remixes.
The only criticism this release gets is to Nero Recordings for not providing those extra mixes.

Great respect to Alex Sayz for collaborating with up-and-coming producer/dj/recluse Hype Jones. Nobody seems to know much about who he is or where he came from (I'm pretty sure his profile picture on facebook is actually Biggie Smalls) but he seems to be lining up a pretty impressive collection of collaborations, bootleg remixes, and original releases . With the quality of his sound and the collaborations he has lined up it makes you think if he's really even a "new" artist.
