Gerd - Friendly Fire (Royal Oak 03)

imageEP Review
Dutch veteran producer Gerd has been a favorite among international electronica fanatics ever since the early 90s. The man's output, which has been released on labels such as EC, 100% Pure, and R&S is nothing short from utterly brilliant. His latest cut, Royal Oak 03, has just been made available for your sticky fingers at Clone.

To no surprise, the three-track EP immediately reveals Gerd's skills from the very beginning. It is as if the man has been locking himself in a flop house somewhere in the Detroit suburbs with drum machine, a bunch of synths, a Rhodes organ and a supply of spliffs. How else did the man come up with such fuzzy, warm and utterly deep Detroit-ish vibes? Whereas Friendly Fire is a warm, almost soothing piece of basement-techno, Vibration takes things to housier levels with warm bass glows and a majestic overall funk. The somewhat druggy Dub mix of Friendly Fires is of equal genius and one for the minimal minded. Our verdict: be sure to get this gem if you're in the mood for some brilliant techno. You'll love it, trust us.
