Floppy Sounds - City For Sale (Remixes)

EP Review -
Floppy Sounds' 2009 City For Sale EP -released on François K's Wave Music label- was a huge banger and now it gets the remix treatment from the likes of Pete Heller, Tedd Patterson, and Roberto Rodriguez. Here we go.
Â
First up are two mixes by acid house maestro Pete Heller who, apart from being one of the most creative producers of his generation, also played a big part in the success of the Junior Boys Own label. Heller's first mix is a stomping house with beefy beats and warm, somewhat oldschool bass sounds. The rhythm's jacking as always, while the many warm synths and vintage house elements turn the track into a high quality club banger we come to love from the Wave Music imprint. His second mix doesn't differ that much from his first, except for the fact that this one contains less vocals and is therefore highly suitable as a DJ tool. NY-house honcho Tedd Patterson serves up a more smooth, percussive version that relies on deep, thumping kicks and rolling drums. Too bad that cheesy melody messes things up a bit, and we also couldn't kept ourselves from frowning upon those cheap sounding synths. Hm.
Roberto Rodriguez goes deep house with a suave and very warm rhythm structure full of soulful house elements. A bit like Roger Sanchez from back in the day. Real smooth stuff. His second remix is the dubber of the two, leaving out the vocals. But with or without singing, these mxies are waht make this EP worthwhile. This EP´s hot, but we can't recall having heard anything bad from the Wave Music posse over the past few months. A dandy example of a quality remix EP.
