Fabio Scalabroni - Spherical Harmonics EP ReviewThis album simply takes off, almost announcing to the listener "Come along..." as it does. Scalabroni has created in these four tracks something unique, odd almost. A series of songs both simple in their writing, but rather intricate in their arrangement. It's quite likely that this is due in large part to how Fabio Scalabroni makes his music. Having provided the world with his signature brand of techno since 1997; Scalabroni has a certain skill in representing where techno has come from. This is likely a result of the fact he uses analog equipment in the making of these tracks. One cannot help but notice that as you progress through these songs that he also has a keen sense of the future of techno. The dubby elements of this record, along with it's intricacies and eccentricities lead the listener to believe that Scalabroni has a firm grasp on the future of our music. These tracks exude confidence, either on headphones, or a home stereo, or even a massive soundsystem. Nothing is lost in translation here. If there were one warning, one disclaimer that I'd offer to a first time listener, it would be simple. Be prepared to put this album on repeat. At only four songs, and a running time of 25 minutes I find that this record really wakes up my appetite. The problem is there's not enough here to put that appetite back to bed. I am left wanting more, and I imagine that is the desired effect. Rating: 8/10
