Debasser - The Tingler

imageAcid breaks

Debasser wants to test out your bass-bins with this truly frightening collection of heavy acid breaks. Subtle it isn’t, but it’ll definitely have you screwing your face up…

The Tingler itself is sample-heavy thrill ride through amen breaks and reverberating bass country, which sets the tone for the whole EP. It’s the kind of thing you can imagine killing it on bass-loving dancefloors all over, as it builds from an acid breaks beginning to end up a proper D&B stomper. Debasser’s WIDE Records cohort Tony De Wonderful takes the track into much darker territory though, stripping out any of the earlier lightness (and there wasn’t much to begin with) then adding some seriously squelchy synths to give the whole thing a more twisted vibe. Proper bass-face material, no questions.

On to the rest of the EP, Ex-Fucktor is a calmer affair, more of a low-end head-nodder that shows a different side to Debasser. He’s not one for keeping to genre-restrictions, which is just as well, as he seems to have gone into dubstep territory here – and done it very well, too. Going Out Like Charlie Poole is another style again, a synth-based rave-fest that reaches almost trance-like heights. So another surprise from an artist who doesn't like being pinned down to any one style of music.

Our verdict:
If you like bass, you’ll like this EP. And we hear that Radioactive Man is a fan, so we’re not going to argue…
