Darren Emerson - Decisions EP

imageHouse -
The second release on Darren Emerson's new Detone label is a solo flight from the man himself, with additional remixes coming from Matt Tolfrey & Chris Sylvester.

The original mix is a playful house cut riddled with bongos, beats and shakers. The first half of the track is a bit too middle-of-the-road, but the breakdown and especially the manic climax with its siren synths definitely make up for it. A very energetic and dynamic tune that's a bit too basic when it matters. On the remix Darren has chosen two of the UK's brightest young producers, Matt Tolfrey & Chris Sylvester. Both are known for their releases on Get Physical, Murmur, Tuning Spork and Great Stuff among others, and their reworks of Decisions once more spotlight their skills. The mix builds up very slowly in the form of a beatless intro full of vocal snippets, heavy bass and lively fx, and then turns into a somewhat freaky yet very adventurous tech house cut. The breakdown and beat programming may be a bit unorthodox, they certainly add an exciting vibe to the overall. Awesome remix.

So, any good? Yup. The original mix is a bit too generic so our pick would be the remix, which is a real heavy hitter.
