Corrugated Tunnel - Remedy For My Soul

imageEP Review -
Edwin James aka Corrugated tunnel has been active in the Dublin electronic scene since 2005, having released EPs on labels such as Invisible Agent and Ork, and having dropped a few remixes for DK7 and Filterwolf. His third album Minor Obsession will be released soon, and the first single from the album, Remedy For My Soul is out now. Is it worth the download?

The least we can say is you are getting quantity for your money. The EP's includes the original track and a whopping 5 remixes. The original mix is a nice and slow synth pop track supported by vocals from Antionette Dunleavy. The track doobies forward in a very laidback way. Easy on the ears and extremely suitable for chilling during a hot day. The synth pop atmosphere is well crafted and gives the track a vintage touch.

The first remix is done by Rennie Foster and offers a more club orientated soundscape. The tempo is once again laidback, and the overall atmosphere is deep and a bit dark. Except the vocals, Antoinette is the sunshine that takes you along the trip. Shane Robinson created a housier version, suitable for those outdoor summer beach events. The track keeps on building until the vocal part is carefully put in place.

Jay Riordan has given the track a very distinctive flavour. He breaks down the track to its bare essentials with a completely cut up vocal to not let it go again until the moment you really want it. The final 2 remixes are Edwin's own Club mix and the instrumental version. The club mix is a proper warm up track, a little less usable for those peak time moments, but an essential if you need to loosen the crowd and if you like your music on the deeper side of things. The instrumental version lack the sweet voice of Antionette of course. Is that bad? No. The track itself is diverse enough to keep you hooked to the end.

Overall Corrugated Tunnel's first single from his new album is a very nice synth pop track with some distant Italo disco influences. The depth of the track and the sweet voice of Antionette make it feel very fresh. Well worth the trouble!
