Ahead of his new artist album for EPM Music, Carl Taylor delivers two new productions ‘Perplexer’ (accompanied by a remix from Orlando Voorn) and ‘Violet’.
Opening track Perplexer is an extremely deep, off-beat piece of dub techno that slowly builds up to an experimental rhythm structure made of loud kicks and shuffling hi-hats. The main melody -a repetitive bassline- continues to evolve throughout the entire track, making the overall the techno equivalent of impending chaos. Very well done. Orlando Voorn is up next with a strong four-to-the-floor shakedown packed with electro bass and keys after which Violet closes things with a Vince Watson-ish slab of Detroit techno. The strings, the hypnotic drums and claps, and the lush melodies, it's all there.
Our verdict: This EP offers you three very diverse techno tracks, all of which are great.
